The “Why” Series

Growing older, travelling, learning and meeting people from all over the world intrigues me. The experience also begs the question, “what will stay the same no matter how our external environment changes?”

I believe the answers are simple but the personal explanations complex.

This series of work observes “The Why”.

First is “The Light”. This is our personal “Because”. It’s our inner faith and belief in ourselves. This is the personal journey that influences our decisions and gives us ownership over them.

“Passion” the most personal and selfish of “The Whys”. We can be lead by others but once we have truly discovered our passion it becomes a continuous yet inconsistent pulse that can frustrate and stir our emotions.

And of course…

“Love” the all powerful “Why”. This is the most confident and absolute of all “The Whys”. This work is a giant noughts and crosses game I played with my husband. It was humorous, competitive and  yet, also complacent at times.

Searching for Peace

While working on “The Why” series, I began to see another strand emerging. One that defined that growing process, yet also forced me to ask more questions.

“Peace” became the most complex observation in the “Why” answers and subsequently a new “sub” series of work.

“Breathe” explores the chaos that surrounds us and the clarity that can be gained by stepping back and taking a deep breath.

“Freedom” looks at the layers of one’s life experiences and how we cannot be defined by one action – the real need to give ourselves the freedom to accept and move forward to grow.
